IN SHOCK: Iraqis react at the site of a car bomb attack near the Iranian Embassy in Baghdad on Sunday.

The Iranian embassy and the office of a political group with close ties to Tehran appear to have been the prime targets of three car bombings which rocked central Baghdad on Sunday.

At least 30 people were killed in the blasts which follow parliamentary elections, where pro-Iran Shia parties are likely to play a decisive role in government formation.

The explosion rocked Tehran's diplomatic mission, Iran's state-run Press TV reported. According to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), many among the dead were employees of a state-run bank, located nearby. The Egyptian and the German embassy were also affected by the blasts.

Besides, the offices of the Iraqi National Congress (INC) led by Ahmad Chalabi, well known for his pro-Iran disposition came under attack.

A spokesman for the INC said many of the organisation's guards and employees suffered casualties in the bombing. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attacks.
