BETWEEN LIFE AND DEATH: A man walks across a foot-bridge over the River Marcal containing the toxic red sludge that spilled on Monday from a giant industrial container near Mersevat, Hungary, on Thursday.

Officials say the Hungarian town near the toxic red sludge reservoir that flooded the area is being evacuated for fear of a new leak of the dangerous heavy metal waste.

Disaster Management spokesman Tibor Dobson tells The Associated Press that experts fear the walls of the reservoir may weaken further and lead to more leaking.

Mr. Dobson says no new waste has escaped from the huge container so far, however.

At least seven people died and more than 120 were injured when the walls of a reservoir at a metals plant gave way on Monday and up to 700,000 cubic meters (184 million gallons) of toxic waste flooded several towns in western Hungary.
