A half-century old low-rise apartment building in Hong Kong has collapsed killing at least one person and trapping five others.
A government statement says a 40-year-old woman has been killed. Kowloon fire chief Li Hung-sum says five residents are missing and two others have escaped with light injuries.
Television footage showed firefighters sifting through the rubble and rescuing residents from neighbouring buildings with hydraulic lifts.
Hong Kong leader Donald Tsang told reporters the five-storey structure in Kowloon peninsula may have tumbled on Friday because it was poorly maintained.
