Pakistan's Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar accused India of engaging in “war-mongering” in the aftermath of clashes and killing of two Indian soldiers at the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.
Ms. Khar also said Pakistan is “deeply disappointed” to hear statements from India that are “upping the ante” and claimed her government is creating a “precedence” of not following war-mongering.
India, Pakistan and the South Asian region cannot afford a conflict between the two countries and the doors of dialogue have to remain open, she said, adding her government wants the dialogue process to be “uninterrupted and uninterruptible.”
The Foreign Minister’s comments came close on the heels of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s stern warning to Pakistan that it cannot be “business as usual” between the neighbours after tension flared up at the LoC following the killing of two soldiers—one of whom was beheaded-by Pakistani troops.
“What do we see today. We see three incidents across the LoC. We see war-mongering which puts the last 60 years actively back into our memory. War-mongering coming in from the other side of the border which is, I thought, the thing of yester years, thing that we had put behind us,” Ms. Khar said at an event at the Asia Society in New York on Tuesday.
“It is deeply disturbing to hear statements (from India) which are upping the ante where one politician is competing with the other to give a more hostile statement,” Ms. Khar, who is in the city on the occasion of Pakistan’s Presidency this month at the UN Security Council, said.
Ms. Khar said a “typical” Pakistani government would have responded with “tit-for-tat” statements but her government has made “pacifying statements” that called for respecting the dialogue process in response to the “hostile statement” India has made in the last few days over the clashes and killings of soldiers at the LoC.
She said there is no question of Pakistan authorising the beheading and killing of any Indian soldier.
“We have two people dead on the Pakistan side and two people allegedly dead on the Indian side...Pakistan government is creating a precedence of not following war-mongering. We would be happy to create a precedence of moving towards a dialogue process. The doors to dialogue are open. We need to meet at any level, we need to call each other. We need to become mature countries which know how to handle their issues.
“For something like this to be blown out of proportion...there is absolutely no questions of ever anyone authorising any beheading or killing of Indian soldiers. It would be absolutely opposite to the peace process,” Ms. Khar said.
Referring to remarks coming from India, Ms. Khar said “two very important persons” within the Indian government have given statements “which we will ignore.”
She said her government has created space within the public arena in Pakistan to have a “positive narrative” towards India.
“What you see in India is currently not living up to that and I hope that we will both show a deep abiding commitment to normalise peace process... I have no doubt in my mind that it is the only way to go forward (for the two countries).”
Ms. Khar denied allegations made by India that its soldiers Lance-Naik Hemraj and Lance-Naik Sudhakar Singh were killed and their bodies mutilated by Pakistani troops in cross-border firing on January 8. She said Pakistan conducted an “intensive” investigation and found no evidence that any killing or beheading had taken place.

India has a right to defend itself. The country has exercised great restraint despite repeated provocations from Pakistan since 1947.
Ms. Khar must be delusional to imagine this speech will be digested and accepted in New York, where a Pakistani national tried to set off a terrorist bombing not too long ago. She must be a source of comedy coming from the same country where the mastermind of the Sept 11th attacks was found and taken out by the Americans! She must be hare brained to imagine the world will see any credibility in any speech of this sort, blaming India, after everyone saw the Mumbai terrorist attacks and knowing where those terrorists came from. If India wanted to wage war, that was the perfect opportunity.
Does Pakistan view the entire world as being foolish while its diplomats make speeches like this?
The very talk of the foreign secretary of pakistan is really proving the point that she is immature. What poeple of India expect from them is a fomal apology for the incident and asurance of not repeating such fatal errors in future. The prove for the beheading of the soldier is the headless body .What else they need to prove it?
Whatever the poilitician are airing out are the sentiments of the poeple. It can never be neglected.Looking back, the Pak have violated the ceasefire agreemets a number of times and surprisingly, Ms Kher is in the view that India is war mongering. The Indian Army has been maintaining peace at the LOC despite the frequent attack attempts .I hail the Prime minister of our country for sending strong warnings to the Pak because there needs to be some change in the attitudes of the pak.peace will be maintained only if both countries stick to some policies and if one of the two involved keeps on violating things how can there be peace?
What to do? Nothing seems to be in government's control in Pakistan.
Army does what they are not asked to do. Extremist organisations in
Pak dclares war against India. Nothing is done to deal with these.
What is the point of dialogue with this government? What is the point
of being normal? Every time peace is attempted, wounds are returned.
Better than a friend who uses the closeness to hurt, is a nobody-
relationship where atleast there is a gap for safety. There can be no
peace in south Asia unless Pakistan's influencial forces leave their
predator attitude towards India.
The above statements shows despotic attempts of Pakistan to raise the
issue of "Kashmir" on international platform, one can see right from the
start that pakistan wanted international UN inquiry which would
ultimately lead to kashmir and at the same time nurturing extremist
leaders from the valley. This is conspiracy , scarface of Pakistan`s
profanity, one cannot shake hands with swords.
So if we are the war mongers, then who waged the war previous four times
?
This is a baseless allegation from the top foreign affairs emissary of our unfriendly neighbour. Without proper evidential support this charge has been made by her. India gives topmost priority to observing peace along the international borders and has never indulged in such mindless activities. We have also given a fitting reply to such misdeeds and Pakistan has also seen our other face. In spite of the experience in the past, still they want to continue such practices and this time they have to be given a tough reply. India will always strive to maintain peace and harmony with its neighbours.
