The leader of the radical Palestinian group Hamas called on United States President Donald Trump on Wednesday to break with past approaches to West Asia peace attempts and figure out an “equitable solution” for Palestinians.

Khaled Meshaal’s comments came as Mr. Trump was due to receive Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas at the White House to explore avenues for reviving the deadlocked peace process.

Interviewed by CNN in Doha, Mr. Meshaal said Mr. Trump had “greater threshold of boldness” than previous United States administrations.

“This is a historic opportunity to pressure Israel ... to find an equitable solution for the Palestinian people,” Mr. Meshaal said.
