Pakistani and Saudi officials say men on a motorbike have thrown two grenades at the Saudi Arabian consulate in Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city. The grenades exploded but no one was hurt.
The motive for Wednesday’s incident was unclear, and there was no claim of responsibility. It came days after Saudi—born al—Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden was killed in a U.S. raid in northwest Pakistan.
Saudi Arabia, a deeply conservative Muslim nation, stripped bin Laden of citizenship and fought al—Qaeda, but money from some of its citizens is believed to help bankroll the al—Qaeda terrorist network.
Police official Iqbal Mahmood said one grenade landed just outside the wall and the other inside.
The Saudi deputy foreign minister, Khaled bin Saud bin Khaled, said the explosions caused minor damage.
