In a chilling reminder of the horrific Delhi gangrape, an 18-year-old girl was raped in a moving bus in the outskirts of the Bangladeshi capital on Thursday.
The alleged culprits were immediately arrested and they confessed to their guilt before a judge at suburban Manikganj district, a top police official said.
An angry mob thrashed the culprits before they were arrested.
A court sent them to jail after they confessed that they duped the victim, a garment worker, into travelling in the empty bus, raped her and then threw her off the vehicle, that left her injured.
“The bus driver and helper gave their confessional statements before the court under section-164 to face the rape charges,” assistant police superintendent of Manikganj, Kamrul Islam told PTI over phone.
Hundreds of protestors took to the street following the incident, despite a government holiday, demanding stern action against the accused, both in their mid 20s.
“We did not seek them to be remanded in police custody since they had already confessed to what they did,” the police officer said.
Police said the hospital authorities later released the victim, whose identity is concealed under law, under the care of her relatives.

Sir,
Rapist has no national identity. The sad case of "Damini" of Delhi touched our heart. All the culprits were caught. Similar to our country. Two of the rapist arrested. In India special court was creatd. In Bangladeh there is a court named "Nari Nrjaton adalat" which is very powerfll. We hope that the culprits/rapist will get exemplary punishment.
To stop it public awareness is very much necessary though it is tough to stop but possible. Indian Govt. has taken various steps to stop it. In Bangladesh it is very difficult. After Delhi incident we saw this are regularly happening in various parts of India. So public awareness is must to check this.
Look at these copy cats trying to ape the Delhi incident. The
perpetrators must be brought to book immediately.Maybe a greater
sentence will ward off the others who attempt to do such inhumane acts.
Dhaka and Delhi are no different when it comes to raping the young
girls.
These and all other problems would disappear and stability achieved within two decades IF a small scientifically-run elite regional government (as opposed to one pandering to mediocre nationalist urges) enforces strong laws setting birth quotas per year and sterilization while aggressively promoting sexual education for minors and guidance of human sexual health.
The obsolete cultures and backward traditions of the subcontinent will not even be a memory in the future.
Such an elite central government, comprised of brilliant unified minds with no room for ill-informed traditionalist morals (morals that have only resulted in misery, let’s admit), would have controls over all sectors of society governing growth, directing policy, managing economy, and keeping food and energy sources in equilibrium with the needs of the population.
The results-driven stability that could be achieved by such a government would put all nationalist governments of the world combined to utter shame.
Deja Vu!Dhakha does a Delhi!? Way to go, world!
Has Delhi taught Dhaka how to punish such criminals?
