Gilani congratulates India over World Cup win

Soon after the Indian cricket team won the World Cup, Pakistan Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani congratulated his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh and expressed the hope that the sports link between the two countries would be fully restored in the near future.

In his message, Mr. Gilani said the semi-final between India and Pakistan, which generated exceptionally high excitement and interest among the people of both countries, also provided an opportunity to their leadership to advance the peace process and build bridges of peace, trust and confidence.

Referring to the manner in which the World Cup succeeded in bringing the cricketing fraternity worldwide even closer, Mr. Gilani further hoped that sportsmen of both sides would continue playing their important role in promoting peace, friendship and amity between the people of their countries.
