Four people were killed and 11 others injured in a gas explosion at a factory in east China today.

The accident occurred around 9:00 am (local time) at the factory that specialised in producing badminton equipment in the city of Nantong in Jiangsu Province, Xinhua reported.

The report said an adhesive used to produce the equipment became vaporised and reacted to sparks from nearby equipment, triggering the explosion.

Two people were killed on the spot, while another two died later at the hospital. The 11 injured are still in hospital.

The explosion also resulted in a fire, which was put out half an hour after the explosion occurred.
