A mystery winner of the Euromillions lottery in France is donating € 50 million of his € 72 million jackpot to charity, the media reported on Saturday.

The man, in his 50s, has requested anonymity, but the local media said he is unmarried and has no children, The Independent reported.

According to RTL Television, the ticket was bought in the Haute-Garonne region of France. The man after validating his ticket stunned lottery organisers by stating his intention of donating 50 million euros – two-thirds of his fortune - to a dozen voluntary organisations working with the disadvantaged.

His unprecedented act of generosity is reportedly the largest donation by a lottery winner in France’s history.

According to the lottery organisers, la Francaise des Jeux, the man’s decision was guided by a spirit of “social solidarity” and he requested no compensation or publicity.
