Floods hit Philippine capital

Most parts of the Philippine capital and nearby provinces were Monday flooded following heavy rains brought by tropical storm Trami, officials said.

Due to the floods, the government suspended classes at all levels in the capital region and the northern provinces of Pangasinan, Benguet, Bataan, Zambales, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, Xinhua quoted presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda as saying.

Work was also suspended in government offices in Manila, except those involved in disaster risk reduction and management. Trading at the Philippine Stock Exchange was also suspended.
