Fire damages gurdwara in Australia

January 13, 2010 11:21 pm | Updated 11:21 pm IST - MELBOURNE:

A gurdwara under construction in a southeastern suburb of Melbourne has been damaged in an overnight fire, police said on Wednesday.

The blaze on Evans Road at Lynbrook was noticed around 12.30 a.m. (Australian Eastern Standard Time), an ABC report said, adding that the “police suspect a bonfire on the site may have started the blaze.”

The police have started probing the incident.

Phillip Charles from the Country Fire Authority said the fire would have been more serious if the temple had been completed.
