Roger Federer and other leading players on the men’s and women’s tennis tours will hold a special hit out Sunday for the benefit of the Haiti earthquake victims.

Top-ranked Federer announced Saturday that he had asked players to get involved in doubles or mixed doubles on Rod Laver Arena, on the evening before the Australian Open starts.

Federer, who has won a record 15 Grand Slam singles titles, didn’t say who he would partner in the doubles or clarify who else was playing, but added: “I do have connections.”

Federer said the admission price would be $10. Rod Laver Arena, the main stadium court for the Australian Open, seats 15,000.

The season’s first major starts Monday morning, although Federer and the other players in the top half of the men’s and women’s draws won’t play until Tuesday.
