Two large explosions targeted courthouses in the city of Benghazi late on Sunday, reducing a part of one of the buildings to a pile rubble, a security official said.
The official said no injuries were reported. Video posted by residents online showed several vehicles destroyed by the explosion at the courthouse in northern Benghazi, which was the site of the first protests against dictator Moammar Gadhafi in early 2011 that led to his ouster.
Another courthouse in the eastern part of the city was also targeted.
The security official said police are investigating if the explosions were the result of bombs. He spoke anonymously in line with regulations.
The city of Benghazi was the birthplace of the country’s uprising against Gadhafi’s rule and is also Libya’s second largest city.
A day earlier, a prison break there set more than 1,000 inmates free.
