Eman Ahmed Abd El Aty, once known as the world’s “heaviest woman”, has shown good medical progress, say doctors from the Burjeel Hospital in Abu Dhabi where she has been admitted since last month. Ms. Ahmed was shifted there after undergoing a surgery and medical management for weight loss at the Saifee Hospital in Mumbai. On Saturday, the team of doctors currently treating her said she could use both her hands to take medication. She was also able to use the television remote control.
“Her nasal tube was removed after all the necessary tests, to allow her to taste all types of food. She is able to sit independently, and for long periods, on a specialised tailored wheel chair. The bed sores are almost healed,” said Dr. Yassin Elshahat, chief medical officer of Burjeel hospital adding that she was able to speak clearer sentences. The next stage of her treatment would involve multiple steps of surgery, including liposuction and plastic surgery. It would start a week after Eid.
While the doctors did not reveal her current weight, they said there was a “significant reduction”.
Weighing 500 kg, Egyptian national Ms Ahmed was brought to Mumbai on February 11 for a weight loss procedure.
