Eight Taliban militants have been killed during a raid by law enforcement agencies at their hideout in Pakistan’s Punjab province, police said on Friday.

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab police said that it had received information about the presence of some 12 militants in Hoaki village of Sheikhupura district, some 50 km from Lahore, on Thursday.

“The police force surrounded the house and asked the militants to surrender. They instead started firing at the police team. Police personnel returned the fire and as a result eight terrorists were killed and four managed to escape,” the CTD said.

Four Kalashnikov, detonators, pistols, some six kg of explosive material and six motorcycles have been seized from their hideout.

The CTD said the militants belonged to the Tahreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and they were planning to attack the officials of law-enforcement agencies in the province.
