A court official says Egypt’s general prosecutor has ordered the wife of former President Hosni Mubarak to be released from custody on bail.
Suzanne Mubarak, 70, faces allegations of corruption and has turned over her property and funds to the state.
She has been hospitalized after complaining of chest pain. The court official did not give the amount of bail requested on Tuesday.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to brief the media.
Anti—corruption prosecutors say Mr. Mubarak’s wife had about $3 million in bank accounts in Egypt and owned a villa where she and her husband lived. It’s not clear how much money the Mubaraks had abroad.
The former president has been held in custody since last month.
