Dhaka ferry disaster death toll rises to 110

The death toll from Tuesday's ferry disaster has risen to 110.

Many bodies were discovered trapped inside the launch when it was lifted from the water on Wednesday, 37 hours after it capsized in the Meghna river. The ferry, MV Shariatpur-1, was carrying more than 250 passengers when it capsized early on Tuesday near Munshiganj, 32 km from Dhaka.

There were heart-rending scenes as bodies were pulled out one after another. Officials said so far 110 bodies had been recovered. They recovered 36 bodies till Tuesday night before the ferry was raised. The government has formed three separate probe committees to probe the disaster. Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan visited the spot and promised compensation to the families of the deceased.
