India expressed “deep concern” over the fact that the rescheduled first round of polls will not be held as scheduled on October 19. In a release issued here on Friday night, the Indian High Commission in Male said: “We call upon all political parties to show a spirit of understanding, cooperation and accommodation by supporting the efforts for holding elections as scheduled, including accepting of the voters’ register. Holding free, fair and credible elections without further delay is essential without further delay is essential for fulfilling the political aspirations of the people of Maldives.

Meanwhile President Mohamed Waheed met the Chairperson, Elections Commission, Fuwad Thoufeeq, and Defence Minister, Mohamed Nazeem. He asked Mr.Thowfeeq to call for all party meet to find a way forward.
