The U.S. and Pakistan on Wednesday reiterated their commitment to the strategic alliance but could not seem to find commonground on the “Raymond Davis issue” that is threatening to unravel the bilateral relationship.
In a series of meetings that U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Chairman John Kerry had with the Pakistani leadership since Tuesday night, the American side sought to drive home the point that “we cannot allow one thing or another that might divide us in a small way to take away from the things that unite us in a big way''.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office on the meeting of Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani with Mr. Kerry, the Senator “emphasized on early resolution of this issue in the interest of continued strategic partnership….'' Mr. Gilani referred to a court order which stated that the question of diplomatic immunity to Davis — if it arises — would be determined by the court.
