Clashes between Thailand's anti-government protesters and security forces continued in Bangkok until dusk on Saturday, even as Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said the authorities would “persevere to restore order as soon as possible”.
Officials cited figures to show that the numbers of protesters were dwindling. Yet, security forces did fire tear gas and use water cannon during the day. There were clashes with the troops as well. And, independent observers said there were injuries on both sides. Late in the night, non-official witnesses in Bangkok indicated that a “truce” between the troops and protesters was emerging. There was no immediate confirmation of this by the government.
