Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has returned home from Cuba after a five-day round of radiation therapy and says the cancer treatments have been going well.

Mr. Chavez says the treatments have been administered for five days in a row and that he will now take two days off before returning to Havana on Saturday for the next round.

The Venezuelan leader says his body has handled the radiation well so far. He says this week’s treatments have been the first of five rounds that are planned.

Mr. Chavez began the treatments following an operation last month that removed what he said was a cancerous tumour.
