A government official says a bus plunged into a rain—swollen river in eastern Pakistan, killing at least 20 people.

Chaudhry Imtiaz says around 20 other people who were riding on the bus in Pakistani—controlled Kashmir on Thursday are still missing and feared dead. Eight injured passengers have been rescued.

Mr. Imtiaz is the deputy commissioner of Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistani—controlled Kashmir.

Pakistan has been wracked by extremely heavy monsoon rains that have swollen rivers and caused devastating flooding that has killed 1,500 people in the past week.
