New York authorities were investigating a suspicious car late Thursday after a local worker spotted two gas canisters on the back seat, a news report said. Police used a remote controlled robot to inspect the vehicle at around 11:55 pm (0455 GMT Friday), an online CNN report said.
Three buildings were evacuated.
Earlier Thursday, police raided three locations in the north-east of the United States in connection with an attempted car bombing in New York’s Times Square on May 1.
The authorities said they uncovered a network used to smuggle money into the country, which may have been used to finance the attempted Times Square attack. The device did not detonate, and authorities arrested a Pakistani—born UScitizen two days later. Faisal Shahzad, 30, has been charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction, and has reportedly been cooperating with law enforcement.
