British Prime Minister Gordon Brown on Monday condemned the “indiscriminate attack on public areas” in Kabul and pledged the international community’s support for Afghan President Hamid Karzai.
“We condemn these attacks in the strongest possible terms ... It is an indiscriminate attack on public areas of Kabul which shows a deliberate disregard for the lives of ordinary Afghans,” Mr. Brown said in a statement released by his office.
“We and the rest of the international community stand united with the government of Afghanistan. This incident strengthens our resolve to build a safer, more secure Afghanistan,” he said.
Mr. Brown has called an international conference to be held in London on January 28 to map out a future for Afghanistan. The meeting is due to be attended Mr. Karzai, US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and the commander of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), General Stanley McChrystal.
