A Brazilian television station’s exit poll indicates ruling-party candidate Dilma Rousseff will win the presidency.
The Globo television network’s poll indicates that Ms. Rousseff leading centrist rival Jose Serra, 58 per cent to 42 per cent.
The poll by the Ibope institute interviewed 54,400 people across Brazil and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 per cent.
Ms. Rousseff is the chosen successor to popular President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and would be Brazil’s first female President.
A career bureaucrat, the 62-year-old Rousseff has never held an elected office. She served as Mr. Lula’s chief of staff and before that as his Energy Minister.
Mr. Serra, who lost to Mr. Lula in the 2002 Presidential election, is a former Senator and Mayor.
