Iraqi officials say a series of explosions has killed three people and wounded 11 others, including a policeman, in south-western Baghdad.

Police and hospital officials said first two bombs exploded in a main street of the Baghdad neighbourhood of Baiyaa on Tuesday.

When a police patrol arrived minutes later, a third bomb exploded, causing all the casualties. A policeman was among the dead.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

Violence has dramatically dropped in Iraq since 2008, but insurgent attacks remain a daily occurrence, especially in the capital.
