Bomb blast kills three, wounds seven in south Philippines

A powerful bomb explosion has killed at least three people and wounded seven others near a school in the southern Philippines.

Jolo Mayor Hussin Amin says the bomb exploded on Thursday near a school and hit pedestrians and passing motorists during rush hour in his town in the predominantly Muslim province of Sulu.

Impoverished Sulu, about 610 miles (980 kilometers) south of Manila, has been targeted by al—Qaeda—linked Abu Sayyaf militants in the past.
