Two people were killed and 10 kidnapped on Saturday when the Islamist extremist sect Boko Haram attacked a Chinese-owned plant in northern Cameroon, officials said.
About 200 Boko Haram insurgents attacked the town of Waza in the country’s Far North region in a convoy of 15 vehicles before dawn, according to the region’s governor, Augustine Awa Fonka.
A Chinese road construction worker and a Cameroonian soldier were killed.
The attack occurred as Cameroon President Paul Biya is attending a security summit in Paris focused on developing strategies to counter Boko Haram.
Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan and representatives from Chad, Niger, Benin, the United States and Britain are also attending the meeting.
French President Francois Hollande called the summit after Boko Haram abducted 200 girls from a school in the northern Nigerian town of Chibok April 14.
