Another young blogger was hacked to death in broad daylight in Dhaka on Monday.

Police said Washiqur Rahman Babu (27) was attacked around 9:45 a.m. on Monday in Tejgaon industrial area in Dhaka.

The latest killing provoked fresh concerns about freedom of speech. A senior police officer said three killers were involved and the police, with the help of locals, caught two of them with machetes from the spot of the incident.

Police identified the detained persons as Jikul and Ariful Islam, students of a madrassa in Chittagong and Darus Ulum madrassa in Dhaka’s Mirpur area respectively. Another attacker managed to escape. Incidentally, the assailants targeted Babu’s head and neck like in the previous attacks on eminent writers and bloggers like Prof. Humayun Azad, Ahmed Rajib Haider, Prof. AKM Shafiul Islam and Dr Avijit Roy.
