Undertaking the first foreign visit after their marriage, Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck will arrive in India on Sunday during which the King will hold bilateral talks with the country’s leadership.

Announcing their State visit, the External Affairs Ministry said the King and Queen will also go to Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur during their nine-day stay.

“The visit of Their Majesties is in keeping with the tradition of regular high-level visits and exchanges between India and Bhutan. While in India, the King will meet with the President who will host a banquet in his honour,” an MEA release said.

Apart from call-ons by the Vice President and other Indian dignitaries, the King will hold talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

This would be the first visit abroad of the King after the Royal Wedding on October 13 and the fourth visit to India since his Coronation in November 2008.

“The visit will contribute to further strengthening and expanding the close bilateral relations between our two countries”, the release said.
