A Bangladeshi journalist has scaled the Mount Everest, becoming the first person from the country to conquer the world’s highest peak.
“Musa Ibrahim has scaled the Mount Everest as the first Bangladeshi,” the Daily Star reported quoting his expedition manager.
Ibrahim climbed the 8,848-metre-high summit along with 14 Nepalese, six Britons, the Montenegrins and a U.S. national and a Serb.
The daily reported that they now await the official conformation on the first ever feat of a Bangladeshi, who is a sub-editor of the newspaper.
The expedition manager said they received the news of the successful mission from their Tibet base camp on Sunday, hours after the team departed from their last camp, situated at 8,300 meters.
Some 1,200 mountaineers have conquered the Everest in the last 50 years, but there was no Bangladeshi among them.
