Avalanche kills Japanese woman trekking in Nepal

Mr. Bartaula, police official, identifed the woman as Masue Yoshida, 63. Her hometown was not known.

Nepal Officials say a Japanese woman and her Nepalese trekking guide were buried by an avalanche while trying to scale a mountain in Nepal over the weekend.

Police official Surendra Bartaula said the avalanche struck on Saturday while they were trying to scale the 19,172—foot (5,844—metre) high Naya Kanga peak in Rashuwa district in north—central Nepal.

The body is still on the mountain and attempts are being made to fly it back to the capital, Kathmandu.

Mr. Bartaula identifed the woman as Masue Yoshida, 63. Her hometown was not known.
