Some 24 people died in government shelling attacks in Syria on Monday hours before peace envoy Lakhdar Brahimi was to brief the UN Security Council on his talks with President Bashar al-Assad and the opposition.

Activists reported government shelling attacks in Aleppo in the north, the central province of Homs, Daraa in the south and the capital Damascus.

At least four children were among those killed, the opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

Some 100 people were killed in Syria on Sunday, the Observatory said.
