Russian rescue workers recovered the body of Polish President Lech Kaczynski who was among the 97 people killed today when his plane crashed.
Russian news agency Ria Novosti quoted an unnamed senior official at the site of the plane crash in the western Russian city of Smolensk. He offered no further details but said work remained to identify many of the bodies.
Kaczynski’s body was recovered, the agency reported.
“Identification of many of the dead will require additional expertise, including DNA analysis,” the agency quoted him as saying.
Meanwhile, Russian Prime Minister Vladmir Putin said that bodies of those killed in the crash will be brought to Moscow for identification.
“The bodies of those killed will be transferred to Moscow for identification,” Mr. Putin said during a meeting with President Dmitry Medvedev, the state media added.
