Contempt of court proceedings were initiated against property tycoon Malik Riaz on Wednesday, a day after he accused Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry of turning a blind eye to his son Arsalaan Iftikhar's “wrong doings”.
The notice was served on Mr. Riaz after the Chief Justice took note of his press conference on Tuesday. The property tycoon had claimed that Mr. Chaudhry was aware of his son's activities much before he took suo motu notice of it last week.
In his first court appearance in the case on Tuesday, Mr. Riaz detailed the alleged payments made to Arsalaan over the past three years including foreign visits and stay at high-end hotels in London and Monte Carlo besides picking up his gambling losses. The property tycoon's claim is that this was not bribe as he was being blackmailed by the Chief Justice's son whom he described as the “don of the Supreme Court''.
Meanwhile, an emergency meeting of the full court has been called on Friday to discuss the serious allegations levelled by Mr. Riaz against the family of the Chief Justice.
