Pakistan on Wednesday said it had successfully conducted the launch of the Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile Hatf IV Shaheen-1A Weapon System. The missile — capable of carrying both nuclear and conventional warheads — is billed as an improved version of Shaheen-1 in terms of range and technical parameters.
Pakistanis got wind of the upcoming missile test from the Indian media after Islamabad informed New Delhi about its plans to conduct a "long range missile test" in the Indian Ocean. Advance notice was given to India about the test in accordance with the May 2005 agreement regarding pre-notification of flight testing of ballistic missiles. India had similarly informed Pakistan about its upcoming test of Agni-V last week in advance.
The test launch was witnessed by Director General Strategic Plans Division Khalid Ahmed who said 'Shaheen-1A' would consolidate and strengthen Pakistan's deterrence abilities. A statement issued by the Inter Services Public Relations did not disclose the range of the missile though the original Shaheen-1 Ballistic Missile System had a range of 700 km.

India and pakistan must sit down and think. Two brothers have got their
homes next to each other. so live like brothers. same land, same
culture,language.etc,etc. they should make one block ie Afghanistan
pakistan and India. Let us make one currency. open the borders for each
others . One visa for foreigners for these countries. there will be
peace and prosperity. everyone would live fear free life
India and Pakistan don't really need to enhance their weaponry, rather
they should concentrate on mutual trust building and economic
cooperation in that direction recent step of opening border trade is a
positive one and WE can resolve our difference through dialogue.
I dont think Shaheen 1A is any better than the previous version. China backed Pak is timing the dummy test so that the West might think this is a spiralling Arms race in South Asia and therefore is a pressure tactic to halt/suspend India's deterence program. Think about it! Think about the timing. Shaheen 1A is no revolutionary design!
Pakistan and India have enough weapons to destroy one another.
We can now focus on upping one another in the eradication of poverty, illiteracy, space
exploration for peace, and developing strategic resilience against NATO, and sharing in
the prosperity of growth opportunities in the region.
SAARC can be a formidable block, if all of us move towards an economic and loose
political union.
A progressive SAARC, would enhance world peace and deter aggressive postures from
countries with colonial style management techniques.
We can talk about peace and idealistic opinions only when the borders are secure enough. The identity of the country(we) is lost if we cannot defend against radical groups on both north eastern and north western borders. To do that we need not just ballistic missiles of agni series but also tactical missiles and we should continue investing on this advanced technologies. The self reliance in the defence sector is a must. As long as we dont sell our weapons or aggressors we are within our limits of principles of our founding fathers. We defend......
PLAYING “MISSILE-MISSILE”
Indo-pak is playing “tesing missile”.After the proclamation of Agni V
testing by Indian govt. Pakistan has editced a trail of improved
Shaheen -1 .Despite the twain being poverty ailing countries both are
bringing forth new innovation and technology to lead the other by the
nose. Siachen is a key to bring peace among the afflicted nations
but the countries are jam-packed in resurging their defence
technology. The need of the hour is to bury the hatchet and bring in a
time of peace. People across the border are waiting to see halcyon
days.
It will effectively scuttle any posiblilty of breakthrough in Siachin talks. It is not a new missile and the test has been done on China's behest and it an indicator of close China Pakistan military cooperation which is a factor in India's reluctance to concede to Pakistan's demands on troop withdrawal.
@Jamshid, Defence spending is not a reason for poverty. Blame it on corrption and politically oriented development plans. India's total defence budget is around 2 % which is far less than what China spends on defence.
Indo-pak is playing missile-missile,despite of the fact that people
having belonging with these two countries suffer the most. Both the
countries are bringing in new innovation and technology just to have a
raised head over the other ,undermining the fact of poor nations.War
based economy is soon to emerge if the twain countinue these missile
testings. This economy will surely increase employment but then there
will be no place for human living in these nations.
the test of inter continental ballistic missile by India was justified on the basis that her deterrence capacity will be truly tested in proximity. But the scepticism and apprehensions in Pakistan led to the test fire of shaheen, which is equally reasonable. The talks of poverty and poor are all farce. Political imbalance in Asia is much bigger a threat.
Besides several years of tiring schemes and scams involved in bringing
out inclusive growth there is a great necessity for gearing up in
infrastructure and defence sectors immediately.
@Jamshid, India is not into arms race with either Pakistan or China.
India is doing its best to keep its hostile neighbors under check. Any
way china is answering Indian A5 test through pakistan. And about your
concern about India improving standard of living for its poor, firstly
India needs to protect itself for rogue nations to nurture its poor
citizen.
Mr Jamshid, are you ready to bring down the walls of your house that is intended for your protection? will a poor man lose guard of his house or weaken his walls because he is poor?
This is in response to the shame comment earlier.. Did Mr Thalassery read other swindling news like the VVIP agusta chopper scandal, or 2G scam or any other multi billion dollar scams happening? does he think all those money could have helped the poor to become minority? btw, we are minority driven country., so right now poor does not have a chance.
Do not agree with Jamshid. We have learn't an expensive lesson in 1965 cannot afford to divert funds only for development like Nehru and secede valuable territory to our neighbours. Military might is a political weapon need not be only a war weapon.
Infra and weaponization must go hand in hand.
It's Shame to see that both India and Pakistan are palying "testing missiles", when millions of people are suffering in both sides to satisfy their primary needs.
Both the goverment should stop spending extravagantly in spending their defence system and divert that money to imporve the living standard of poor majority. when poor people become minority then you can start testing missiles, declare war, killing people and destroying infrasture. If someone get killed another will get his job. construction companies can employ more engineers and labourers to reconstruct infrastructure. we can change our economy to war based economy.
