An official says an armed man has taken a handful of people hostage at a Wachovia bank branch in North Carolina.
Town spokeswoman Carrie Roman said on Thursday that police aren’t sure exactly how many hostages are inside but the number is fewer than six. Authorities aren’t sure if the hostages are employees or customers.
Roman says police talked to the gunman immediately after the robbery, which was reported around 3 p.m., but have had limited contact since.
The manager of the pharmacy next door in Cary says officers with their guns drawn have surrounded the bank and helicopters are circling overhead. Melissa Lopes also says customers and workers have been told to stay inside until police give them the all clear.
