Thousands of people are rallying around Japan’s parliament complex to demand that the government abandon nuclear power after last year’s Fukushima crisis.
Also Sunday is a closely watched regional election. Voters are choosing a governor in south-western Yamaguchi Prefecture, where an outspoken anti-nuclear candidate is running.
Sunday’s rally is the latest in a series of peaceful demonstrations in Japan, including weekly Friday evening protests outside the Prime Minister’s residence.
The crowds have not dwindled, and public discontent has grown to levels unseen in decades.
Protesters say they are angry that the government restarted two reactors earlier this month, despite safety worries after the multiple meltdowns at Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.
All 50 working reactors in Japan went offline in May due to routine checks.

It is true that Fukushima was major accident in nuclear history but
that plant was not designed for such big size (22m)tsunami wave.this
was the cause of accident. And nuclear community is adopting highest
level of safety standards that any accident due to design basis is not
possible.Indian nuclear reactors are very safe and have not reported
any incident so for.india is having such great reserve of thoreum and
we are master of nuclear technology now.our country is fighting for
energy and we need green energy today to meet our need and to sustain
growth.in this arena Nuclear Energy is best among all.We all should
welcome it.
Today I participated in this anti-nuke rally. I could see thousands of people came for the rally. They were acting peacefully but very angry inside. I could see new born babies as well as old people in the wheel chair.
People were chanting slogans against government, nuclear power and Japan PM Mr. Noda. I could see many musicians with their musical instruments. All people traveling in bus or car were showing their support for the anti-nuke rally by raising their hands.
As per my opinion this nuclear power is a billion dollar business at the cost of poor people and should be stopped asap.
Indian people should never allow building any plant in India. Yes, India need electricity but that can be produced by using alternative means.
