Putin scoffs at allegations in dossier

January 18, 2017 04:26 am | Updated 04:26 am IST - Moscow:

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday accused the outgoing U.S. administration of trying to undermine President-elect Donald Trump by spreading fake allegations.

Mr. Putin, speaking at a news conference, described a dossier on Mr. Trump as part of efforts by President Barack Obama’s administration to “undermine the legitimacy of the President-elect” despite his “convincing” victory. In his first public comments since the dossier was published last week, Mr. Putin rubbished the idea that Russian secret services spied on Mr. Trump during his 2013 visit to Moscow for the Miss Universe final.

“Trump when he came to Moscow... wasn’t any kind of political figure, we didn’t even know of his political ambitions,” he said, responding to a journalist’s question at a news conference. — AFP
