On his third trip to the United States since the election of Donald Trump, Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar met U.S. National Security Advisor Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster, House Speaker Paul Ryan and Under Secretary of State Thomas Shannon on Wednesday. U.S officials have termed his visit a proactive approach to explore areas of cooperation with the Trump administration.
Mr. Jaishankar is expected to meet more U.S. officials on Thursday and Friday.

Mr. Ryan expressed condolences on the death of Indian engineer Srinivas Kuchibhotla – who was killed in an act of racial violence in Kansas recently. “The relationship between the United States and India is rooted in shared values of democracy and freedom. We had a great opportunity today to build on this critical partnership by discussing ways to enhance our economic and defense cooperation. In our meeting, I expressed the House’s condolences on the death of Srinivas Kuchibhotla, who was senselessly murdered last week in Kansas. Our peoples must continue to stand together, and I look forward to working with Foreign Secretary Jaishankar in the years ahead,” Mr. Ryan said in a statement.
