At least nine people were killed in a blast apparently targeting a vehicle of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) in Peshawar on Wednesday afternoon. Together with Tuesday night's twin blasts in Karachi aimed at the Bohra community, bombs have consumed 16 lives in 24 hours.
According to police, about 40 kg of explosive material had been packed into a car parked on the Kohat road. The PAF van was passing by when the explosion took place. Police said the explosion was triggered with a remote-controlled device.
Though the PAF has been the target of several terror attacks — the most recent and brazen one being the breach of the Kamra Air Base last month — the Dawoodi Bohra community has never been targeted. Of the seven killed in the twin blasts in the North Nizamabad area of Karachi, six were from the Bohra community.
The twin bomb attacks came a day after the visit of Syedi Mufaddal Bhaisaheb Saifuddin, the designated successor of Syedna Mohammad Burhanuddin. Dawn newspaper reported that a large number of Bohras from across the country and India were visiting Karachi in connection with the visit but no Indians were killed or hurt in the explosions.
