A suspected suicide bomber has killed at least 39 pilgrims participating in a mourning ceremony at the Imam Hussein mosque in the south-eastern Iranian city of Chabahar.
There are several women and children among the dead. Iran's state-run Press TV quoted an official from the Red Crescent Society as saying more than 50 people had been injured in the attack.
Meanwhile, Chabahar Governor Ali Bateni said one of the two would-be suicide bombers was arrested. “There were two terrorists who have been identified by police but they exploded one of their vests before any move,” Mr. Bateni told IRNA.
He added that the second attacker was spotted and arrested before he could detonate his explosives. He rejected reports that there were two blasts and three terrorists were involved in the strike. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack but the anti-Iranian group Jundollah is active in the area.
