The U.N. refugee agency says 25,000 Ivorian civilians have fled to Liberia fearing an outbreak of violence in Ivory Coast because of the disputed presidential election.
A spokesman for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees says 600 more refugees are arriving in Liberia daily.
Adrian Edwards told reporters in Geneva on Tuesday that the United Nations is setting up a refugee camp for 18,000 people in the eastern Liberian town of Bahn.
Ivory Coast’s incumbent president, Laurent Gbagbo, has refused to cede power to the internationally recognized winner of the election, Alassane Ouattara.
