At least 14 civilians including nine road construction workers were killed and three injured in two separate attacks in Afghanistan, officials said Saturday.
“A minivan struck a landmine in Marjah district this morning, in which five civilians including a woman and a child were killed,” said Amar Zwak, governor’s spokesman for the southern province of Helmand.
He said three men were wounded in the attack.
In western Herat province, insurgents shot and killed nine workers of a road construction company.
“The militants attacked a police checkpoint at 12:30 am (2000 GMT) in Karrokh district, but faced police resistance and escaped from the area,” provincial police spokesman Abdul Raouf Ahmadi said.
“On their way, they entered the resting room of construction company workers and opened fire at them, killing all nine workers sleeping,” Ahmadi said.
Taliban sources were not immediately available for comment.
