October 13, 2010 09:12 pm | Updated 09:13 pm IST - New York:

Indian student Pranita Agarwal died in a fiery car accident early on Monday, just outside the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) where she was studying, University officials said.

Ms. Agarwal was killed when her car crashed into haul trucks as she tried to avoid a speeding minivan, the local Sheriff's office said. The car burst into flames.

Ms. Agarwal of Mumbai was a second-year student at the RIT, Democrat and Chronicle reported.

“Her death creates a tremendous void here on campus. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of those individuals who have been affected by Pranita's passing,” Mary-Beth Cooper, senior vice-president of student affairs, said in a message to the RIT community.
