Indian researcher among 17 selected for European programme

November 05, 2009 01:57 am | Updated 01:57 am IST - Heidelberg (Germany):

The European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) has announced this year’s selection of 17 of Europe’s most talented young researchers as EMBO Young Investigators. The selection has been made out of 123 applicants from nine countries.

M. Madan Babu (29) of India, a former student of Anna University, who has done his PhD in Computational Genomics and is now heading a group in Systems Biology at the MRC Lab of Molecular Biology, Cambridge, U.K., is among those selected.

Set up 10 years ago, the programme identifies some of Europe’s most promising and creative young life scientists. They will receive academic, practical and financial help from EMBO in the crucial years of their scientific careers — as they set up their first independent research laboratories and develop reputation in the scientific community. Selected for the high standard of their research, the 17 group leaders join the network of around 230 scientists.
