An Indian businessman has been found dead in mysterious circumstances in a suburb near the Omani capital of Muscat.

The body of V. V. Vasudevan was found by one of his staff members with his hands and legs tied near his Land Cruiser vehicle in a yard behind one of his hardware shops at Al Hail yesterday, the Gulf News report said.

Popularly known as Vasu, the hardware and building material businessman was last seen after he closed his shop, his brother Vijayan said. Incidentally, Vasu’s family had landed in Muscat back from India, minutes after his body was found.

“In the evening one of the staff members called me that something was wrong, when I rushed here, I saw my brother’s body with his hands and legs tied,” Mr. Vijayan told the newspaper.

According to eyewitnesses, the body of 54-year-old Vasu bore strangulation marks around his neck. “We have no idea how this happened,” his brother said as the police at the scene called him for an inquiry.
