India sends relief material to Kyrgyzstan

July 06, 2010 10:27 pm | Updated 10:27 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Responding to an appeal by the Kyrgyz government, India on Tuesday sent food items, medicine and tents, as part of a humanitarian aid, in an Indian Air Force Il-76 aircraft to Osh from here.

The supplies will be delivered to the Ministry of Emergency Situation there through the Indian Mission.

Another consignment will be sent on Thursday, a Defence Ministry release said.

India has been closely following recent developments in Kyrgyzstan. While southern Kyrgyzstan has calmed down after the violence in mid June, the events left thousands in need of urgent humanitarian assistance.

“In response to the appeal by the Kyrgyz government, the Government of India decided to provide urgent humanitarian aid to the friendly people of the Kyrgyz Republic, in this hour of need. The assistance comprises mainly food items, medicines and tents,'' the release said.
