While refusing to comment on the indirect indictment of the former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, by the Liberhan Commission, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi said on Tuesday that he had great respect for the senior leader.

Mr. Gandhi said as a young person he was nowhere near the experience of Mr. Vajpayee.

“In accordance with the Indian tradition, I owe Vajpayeeji a certain amount of respect,” he told journalists here.

Mr. Gandhi said it was not for him to say whether the Commission had done right or wrong (by indicting Mr. Vajpayee). “I am not a judge.”

On his absence from the Liberhan report debate in Parliament, the Amethi MP said there were plenty of senior people to participate in the debate.
